May 2012 Newsletter

Clean up the Capital 2012Many thanks go to our 14 volunteers who came out to clean up our beautiful neighbourhood. With concentrations on properties surrounding school yards, as well as Beacon Hill South, our gang managed to collect several hundred pounds of trash. Again, thanks to everyone who came by to help. Hopefully next year, even more people can spend 2 hours lending a hand.

Big Beacon Hill Garage SaleWith the big day almost upon us, we’ve had over 20 people sign up for the Big Beacon Hill Garage Sale. There’s still time to sign up, right up to the last minute. visit BHCA.ca and enter your garage sale’s address right there on the home page.

For Corridor 6 (of interest to Beacon Hill residents): The picture entitled “Corridor 6 Segment 3 Rue Notre-Dame and the Ottawa River Crossing” provides the best perspective on where a bridge will cross the Ottawa river to the Quebec side.

Councillor Tim Tierney’s Community UpdateMay 2012

As we move into the warmer, almost summer days we have a few hurdles behind us and a few projects on the horizon to watch for.

Council is pleased to be moving forward with Lansdowne development plans as this is a long-awaited improvement. Looking down the road, we’re also looking forward to hosting the FIFA Women’s World Cup in 2015 – the world’s premier women’s sporting event.

If you’re following the LRT news, you’ll know that we are also marching ahead and tweaking plans for station locations and will be moving forward with the necessary studies and ultimately, construction.

The recent shake up at OC Transpo will bring many new and exciting changes – and improvements – to the system. The new priorities include the implementation of the PRESTO card, fares, financial management and labour relations with the number one focus being customer service!

On the local scene, you will notice the familiar true indication of spring – road work. Watch for construction on Hwy 174 (Montreal to Blair) and the much-needed La Verendrye Drive. After hearing from many of you in the community I was pleased to have this street added to the Ottawa on the Move priority list for 2012.

On a final note, congratulations to Natalie Maione of Helping With Furniture who was presented with United Way Community Builder Award this week – a true community leader! We’re proud of you and all that you do.

In the coming weeks I will be sending out my community newsletter that will have more detail and information on our upcoming community fair “Celebrate Summer”.
